Frederick P. Beneri 1913-2011 UTICA, NY Frederick P. Beneri, 97, of Utica, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 in Bennington, Vt. Fred was born on September 5, 1913 in Rochester, N.Y., son of Anthony and Louise Beneri, and moved with his family to New York City when he was 10. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corp under FDR'S administration, and was soon drafted at age 27 for service in WORLD WAR II. He served in the African Theatre, Military Police Detachment as a drill sergeant, 716th MP battalion. He was honorably discharged Saint Patrick's day 1946 with a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct medal and a World War II Victory Medal A lifelong baseball fan, Fred signed with the former New York Giants and was farmed to play in Landers, NC a state league for two years. In 1948 he returned to New York City, working in the Custom House as an inspector. He was transferred to the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he met his future wife, Grace (Iffert) Fred and Grace retired in 1970 where Fred worked at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for several years They moved to Utica in 1978 where Fred became a missionary under Father Robert Kelly of Blessed Sacrament Church, in Utica, N.Y., visiting nursing homes as well as donating his time feeding the homeless at Hope House for 8 years. Following the closing of Blessed Sacrament, he regularly attended and contributed to services at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church in Utica. When in Bennington, he attended services at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church. Fred is pre-deceased by his wife Grace and his son, Michael B. Williams of Bennington Vt. Fred is survived and deeply missed by daughter-in-law Claire L Williams of Bennington; grandchildren Meike WIlliams of Bennington Vt,, Mark Williams of Brooklyn N,Y,, and Nicole Williams of Tucson Ariz.; his beloved nephews and nieces include Fred Beneri of Queens, N.Y., Louise Beneri of Queens, N.Y., Anthony Beneri of Dunedin, Fla., John Beneri of Levittown, N.Y., Fred Bozzo of Milton, N.Y., ALice Quatrochi of Springfield, Va., Laura Quatrochi of Philo, Calif., Paul D Quatrochi of New York, N.Y., Joan and Richard Amann of Utica N.Y., and his esteemed friend Keith Ballard of Utica N.Y., for whom the family is grateful for keeping an ever watchful eye on Fred. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11:00 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Committal services will take place in Calvary Cemetery , Utica, New York on Monday, August 29, at 11 a.m. On line condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net.
