Frederick K. Farnum, Sr.

1937 - 2015 POWNAL, VT. Frederick K. Farnum, Sr. age 77, a resident of South Stream Rd., died on Tuesday evening, March 24, 2015 at his home. He was born in Bennington on April 22, 1937, and was the son of the late Robert K. and Abbie (Amidon) Farnum. He received his education in Bennington schools. Frederick served in the Army. He married the former Nancy Sawyer in Bennington on April 8, 1961. Mrs. Farnum survives. Mr. Farnum had worked at Johnson Controls in Bennington for several years until the plant closed, and then went to work for Energizer in Bennington. He enjoyed spending time with his family, maintaining his gardens, hunting and fishing. Survivors besides his wife include three children; Frederick K. (Gabriele) Farnum, Jr. of New York City, Lori A. (Luther) Carpenter of Copper's Cove, TX and Kenneth B. (Shannon) Farnum of Bennington. Fred has four grandchildren: Nicole, Jason, Brody and Abby, and six great-grandchildren. He leaves his brothers and sisters; Donald Farnum of California, Ray (Patricia) Farnum of Bennington, Shirley Barnhart of Bennington, Mary (Steve) Stemp of Bennington, Thomas Farnum of Dallas, TX, and Julia (Mike) Moretti of Virginia. He is also survived by one sister-in-law, Moriko Farnum of Florida and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a sister, Virginia, and brothers, Roger and Robert. MEMORIAL SERVICES: A Memorial service will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday, March 30 at 5 p.m. with Kenneth Coonradt, chaplain of the Vermont Veterans Home, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad, through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
