BENNINGTON -- Frederick Paul Burdo, 76, a resident of West Road Park, died Friday evening, Sept. 1, 2006, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

He was born in the Fort Dummer area of Brattleboro on July 29, 1930, the son of Frederick Louis and Delia (M. Lavalley) Burdo, and attended local schools. Frederick worked as a plumber for most of his life. He worked for Ed Gilbert and Huestis Plumbing and Heating in Brattleboro for many years, also practicing his trade for Crowell Plumbing in Florida, Marlboro Plumbing and Heating in Massachusetts and Northland Solar in Salem, N.Y.

Frederick was a member of the United States Army and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He also loved to dance.

Frederick is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Lorraine Crowell whom he married in Hinsdale, N.H., on Aug. 19, 1950; three sons, Frederick P. Burdo Jr. and his wife Sue, of Warrior, Ala., Ronald F. Burdo and his fiance, Dawn, of Bennington, and Douglas M. Burdo and his wife, Linda, of Jay, Maine; two sisters, Clayda (Clifford) Hastings and Margaret Jackson; five grandchildren, Timothy J. Burdo and his wife, Michele, of Bennington, Tonia J. Fifield and her husband, Gregory, of Belcher, N.Y., Eric D. Burdo and his wife, Miranda, of Hermon, Maine, Sheila E Bright and her husband, Matthew, of Springfield, and Robert Burdo, of Warrior; one step-granddaughter, Crystal G. Marsh, of Austin, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren, Nekia, Keenan, Jacob, Geoffrey, Ella and Katelyn Burdo, Bailey Ann and Chailyn Fifield and Anastacia, Isaac and MycKayla Bright; and his niece, whom he considered a sister, Marion Plummer and her husband, James.

He was preceded in death by two siblings who died in infancy, baby Alfred and baby Evelyn; his twin brother, Francis, and brother, Alton Burdo; his sisters, Leah Jahnsen, Laura Dube, Theresa McCauley; and his nephew Justin Burdo. Funeral services for Mr. Burdo will be held Wednesday morning, Sept. 6, 2006, at 11 a.m. the Ker-Westerlund and Fleming Funeral Home, 39 High St., Brattleboro.

Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., when the family will be in attendance. Following cremation, memorial services will be held at the Vermont Veterans Home Memorial Chapel in Bennington on Friday Sept. 8, 2006, at 1 p.m. For those who wish, memorial gifts in Frederick’s memory may be made to the Vermont Veterans Home, designated to the East Wing, c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, P.O.
