Gail H. Bigart

1939-2010 BENNINGTON Gail H. Bigart, 70, widow of Gareth "Gary" Bigart, a former resident of Bennington and more recently of Boynton Beach, Florida died Sunday, July 25, 2010 at J.F.K. Memorial Hospital in Lake Worth, Florida following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington August 14, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Forrest Hassom and the former Mildred Leonard Hassom who survives.

Gail received her education in Bennington and was a graduate of Bennington High School. She later graduated from Bay Path College in Springfield, MA.

Gail and Gary were married on November 19, 1960 at the Old First Church in Old Bennington. Gary died December 13, 1996.

In earlier years Gail was employed at Sprague Electric in North Adams and also at Yankee Notions in Bennington. A legal secretary for many years she was employed by Clark, Lillie & Holden, Barr, Sternberg and Moss and later by Attorney Peter Holden.

For many years Gail was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Bennington and Boynton Beach and at the time of her death was serving as Second Reader at the church in Boynton Beach. Gail especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and her frequent trips to the beach.

Survivors include her four children, Gary Bigart and his partner, Mark Fatone of Boynton Beach, Amy Bishop and her husband, Barry of North Bennington, Laurie Morse of Manchester and Brian Bigart of Bennington; her mother, Mildred Hassom of Bennington; eight grandchildren, Christy Bigart, Brooke and Meghan Bishop, Matthew, Ben, Alexis and Justin Morse and Caleb Crowley; a brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Peggy Hassom of Peru and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband Gail was predeceased by a son, Todd Bigart and a sister, Sheila Hebert and her grandmother, Katherine Leonard, whom she was very close to.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Gail H. Bigart will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 1 p.m.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
