Gale W. Burke 1934 - 2009 BENNINGTON Mr. Gale W. Burke, 75, a resident of White Birches, died Tuesday evening August 11, 2009 at The Centers For Living and Rehabilitation following a courageous battle with cancer. Gale was born in Manchester on February 21, 1934, son of H. Walter and Mary E. Clayton Burke. He received his education in Manchester, Newport Center High School and was a 1953 graduate of Burr & Burton Seminary where he played football for three years and baseball and basketball for one year. He married his companion of 32 years, Barbara Moses, on April 12,2003. Gale had worked as a truck driver and equipment operator throughout his life, at Merrill Transport, Wm E. Dailey and Burgess Brothers Construction. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1861, honorary member of V.F.W. Post 1332 and a former member of The Moose Family Center. In earlier years he was a car enthusiast. Gale enjoyed the outdoors including hunting, fishing and golfing. He was an avid reader, enjoyed writing and had great carpenter skills. He loved the company of his dog Cooper whom was with him throughout his illness. He leaves his wife, Barbara; children, Mitchell and wife, Judy Burke, of Uxbridge, Mass., Pamela and husband, Dana Sennett, of Waterville, Maine, Gail Lynne and husband, George Crowley, of Bennington, and Timothy and wife, Jo-Ann Burke, of Bennington; stepson, Travis Crocker of Boston, Mass.; brothers, Steve and wife, Sue Burke, of Buskirk, N.Y. and Zane and Amy Burke of Woodford; sisters, Anna Moffitt of Bennington, Jane Forrest and companion, Don Davis (Gale's longtime friend), of Bennington and Emma and husband, Bernie Bacon, of Shaftsbury Hollow; sister-in-law Eleanor Burke of White Creek; grandchildren, Landree Parrott, Kessick Burke, Cassidy Crowley, Kailea Shapiro, Karissa Burke, Keean Burke, Taylor Burke, Schyler Crowley, Will Sennett and Jordyn Burke; and great-grandchildren Madeline Parrott and Wyatt Bliss. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Burke. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services will be held on Friday August 14 at 1 p.m. in the Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek when family and friends are invited to share memories of Gale. There are no calling hours.
