Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Mr. Gary A. Michaels were held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church Tuesday, April 6, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial was offered by Vincent Coppola, c. s. c. associate pastor.

The organist and soloist was Donald McMahon. Hymns offered during the funeral mass were “How Great Thou Art,” “Be Not Afraid” and the “Old Rugged Cross.” Mr. Michael’s granddaughter Nicki Shearer, played the piano and sang “Meet Me by the River.” Mr. Michael’s urn was carried to the altar by his son David. The scriptural readings were offered by Mr. Michael’s daughter Lynne Wilson and his brother Robert L. Michaels. The offertory gifts were presented by three grandchildren Kelly Wilson, Crystal Chase and Bailey Michaels. Words of remembrance were offered by Mr. Michael’s brother Robert, his son the Rev. James Michaels, and his wife, Janet.

The burial took place in the family lot in Saint Johns Cemetery with the Rev. Coppola offering the committal prayers. Military taps were offered by Maurice Rancourt. The flag was presented by Ralph Brown from the American Legion Post 13. Three white doves were released at the cemetery, one of the doves represented Gary going to heaven, the two others represented two angels escorting Gary to heaven.

Honorary bearers were three grandsons, Sean Michaels, Joshua Michaels and Gary Wilson.

A reception followed at the Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Parish Center.

Monday evening the Rev. Michael Demasi offered the Rosary with the Knights of Columbus.

Gary A. Michaels, 65, a resident of South Street, Bennington, went to be with the Lord April 1, 2004.
