Gavin F. Briggs 1984 - 2012 POWNAL, VT Gavin F. Briggs, 28, a resident of Mason Hill Road in Pownal, died Friday, June 8, 2012, in Bennington as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born in Greenfield, Mass., Jan. 24, 1984, he was the son of Harry L. Briggs Sr. and Nancy (Buck) Briggs. Gavin received his early education in the Bennington schools and was a graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School in Bennington. Gavin was employed at Porta Brace in North Bennington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling "The Jeep" and riding his motorcycle. He was a practical joker and had an amazing sense of humor, along with a contagious laugh. But his favorite thing was spending time with family and friends, especially at the bonfires all summer long. Gavin also enjoyed a special bond with his brother Chris growing up. Survivors include his parents of Pownal; 10 siblings, Harry Briggs Jr. of Shaftsbury, Octiva Briggs and Kim Briggs of South Carolina, Pam (Ted) Long of New Jersey, Gordon (Helena) and Travis (Donna) of New Hampshire, Belinda Briggs of Rutland, Sabrina (William) Joly, Shane Briggs and Christopher Briggs, all of Bennington; his maternal grandparents, Janice and Anson Pratt of Pownal; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loads of friends including Chris Jauch, John Pare, and Ashley Washburn. MEMORIAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Gavin Briggs will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 1 p.m.. with the Rev. Gary Dickson, pastor of the Pownal United Methodist Church, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Should friends desire, memorial contributions for Gavin Briggs may be made to Vermont Pit Bull for Adoption through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
