Geneva Irene Masi 1922 - 2012 ARLINGTON Geneva Irene (Gorton) Masi, 90, formerly of Route 313 passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Masi was born Jan. 18, 1922, in Wallingford, the daughter of Ira F. and Irene (Burdick) Gorton. Mrs. Masi was educated at Wallingford Vermont High School, graduating in June 1939. Later, she attended Bishop DeGrosbriand Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington, graduating in June, 1943. In earlier years, Mrs. Masi worked as a nursing supervisor of a surgical floor in the Worcester City Hospital, Worcester, Mass., and worked in the emergency ward at the Veterans Hospital in Togus, Maine, before coming to Arlington where she provided private duty nursing. She was a communicant of Christ Our Savior (St. Margaret Mary's Church) and a member of the Sodality. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 69. Mrs. Masi was an avid reader and loved to travel. She enjoyed walking and playing games with her grandchildren. She taught Catechism classes and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, working blood drives at her church. She enjoyed listening to music and played the guitar. Mrs. Masi is survived by her children, John S. Masi, Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Bennington, Robert Masi and his wife, Deborah, of Lexington, N. C., and Beverly Broomhall and her husband, Matthew, of South Burlington; her sister, Gladys Baker of Wilmington; her grandchildren, John S. Masi, Jr. and his wife, Joleyne Kenyon; Heather Masi and her husband, Anthony Santiago, M.D.; Sarah Masi-Kahrs and her spouse, Lee; Heidi Lawyer, Angela Masi, Joseph Masi and his fiance, Melanie Stephenson, Alison Leary and her husband, Kevin, and her great-grandchildren, Anneliese Masi, Marleen and Connor Lawyer, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven, who died March 23, 1991, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington; by her brother, Ira Gorton who died in 2004, and by her sister, Hazel Merrow, who died Feb. 24, 1995. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mrs. Masi will be held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME Arlington Chapel Historic Route 7A Arlington. Interment will be private in St. Columbans Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours. If friends desire, gifts in Mrs. Masi's memory may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad or the Arlington Volunteer Fire Department.
