Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- George Alexander “Alex” Sleeman Jr., 47, a resident of Main Street in Bennington, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y. following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington, the son of George A. Sleeman Sr. and Rose Mary “Rosita” (Mezher) Sleeman. He received his education in Bennington and was a 1977 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. He later attended Southern Vermont College in Bennington.

Alex had, along with his mother Rosita, co-owned and operated the Mexican Connection in Bennington for the last 21 years.

He was a former member of the Bennington Elks Lodge. He also loved to travel.

Survivors include his parents George A. Sleeman Sr. and Rosita Sleeman of Bennington; three brothers, John Sleeman of Bradenton, Fla., Paul Sleeman and his wife Emily of Mexico City, Mexico, and Daniel Sleeman and his wife Jana of Bennington; a sister, Mary Leigh Abed and her husband, Eduardo, of Weston, Fla.; four nieces and six nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either VNA and Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care or one’s favorite charity through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
