Obituary Condolences

NEW BERN, N.C. -- George Benjamin Brush, 82, of New Bern, died Feb. 12, 2007, at Britthaven of New Bern.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Grace Brush, and his son, Gary Brush.

Born, Aug. 9, 1924, in Newburgh, N.Y., he served his country as a 1st lieutenant in the Army during WWII and as a captain in the National Guard until 1964. He was president of Beneficial Finance, N.E. Group until his retirement in 1985. During his retirement, he was an active member of the RiverBend Country Club, was an avid sports fan, and loved to spend time at the family cottage in Canada.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Jane; sons, Michael Brush and wife, Sharyn, of Bennington, Vt.; Scott Brush of New York City; daughters, Judi Blanchard and husband, Bill, of Delmar, N.Y.; Patty Brush of Medway, Mass.; brother, William Brush of Anderson, S.C.; and grandchildren, Michael Blanchard, Ashley and Corey Brush.

Visitation was held Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Cotten Funeral Home. A funeral mass was held Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Ernest Ruede officiating. Internment followed at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Craven County Home Health Hospice, P.O. Drawer 12610 New Bern, N.C., 28561.
