George H. Cross

1934 - 2009 WINCHESTER George H. Cross, a resident of Grove Place in Winchester, and formerly of Sunderland, Vt., passed away Dec. 5, 2009, at his home.

George was born in Arlington, Vt., on June 8, 1934, son of Bernard and Helen Dupee Cross and attended the one room school-house in Chisevelle. Vt.

George worked as a crane operator for Monroe Shipyard in Chelsea, for 25 years until they closed and then he went to work at Pier Seven in Boston for the next 20 years. George was an avid hunter, enjoyed camping and loved deep-sea fishing. He enjoyed country western music and watching Gene Autry western movies. Most of all he enjoyed being at his home and spending time with his family.

George was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of VFW Post 6471 in Manchester, Vt., American Legion Post 45 in Medford, and the Loyal Order of Moose Post 336 in Chelsea.

George leaves a son, Tom Cross of Arlington, his daughters, Wanda Woodard of Manchester, Vt., Selina Toro of Bennington , Vt., and Leisha Harrington of Bennington, Vt.; his brothers, Anthony Cross of New Hampshire and Bernard Cross of Manchester, Vt., his sisters, Bernice Gaudette of Arlington, Vt., Mary McKeighan of Shaftsbury, Vt., Sharon Allaire of Sunderland, Vt., and Dianne Jennings of Arlington; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his former wife, Blanche Cross, his canine companion, Lady, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his second wife, Anna Cross, and his brothers, Raymond, Edward, Harold, Thomas and Patrick Cross and his sisters, Judy Sherman and Claudia Christman.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for George will be held Saturday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2009, at 1 p.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL ARLINGTON CHAPEL, Historic Route 7A Arlington, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland, VT. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, Dec. 12, 2009, from 12 to 1 p.m. one hour prior to the service.
