Rev. George H. Dupuis 1924-2010 ARLINGTON Rev. George H. Dupuis, parish priest of St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington from 1982-2008, passed away peacefully Friday evening September 10, 2010 at Rose Lane at the Village at Fillmore Pond in Bennington. Rev. Dupuis was born in Hartford, Conn. on January 29, 1924 the son of the late Alphee and Irene (Martin) Dupuis. Rev. Dupuis attended St. Thomas and St. Joseph schools in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1942. He attended Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. in June and July of 1943 where he took a six week summer course to complete two years of college. He then went on to attend St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, Conn., St. Paul University Seminary in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and completed a continuing education course in Casa-Rome, Italy. Rev. Dupuis was ordained at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington, Vermont on June 3, 1950 by Bishop Edward F. Ryan. Rev. Dupuis assignments throughout his career included St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski, Vermont, St. Peter's Church in Vergennes, Vermont, St. Paul's Church in Orwell, Vermont, All Saints Church in Richford, Vermont, St. Peter's Church in Vergennes, Vermont and St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington, Vermont from 1982-2008. Rev. Dupuis had many Diocesan responsibilities during his career which included Weeks School Chaplain in Vergennes, CYO Addison County Moderator, Vermont and Northern new Hampshire St. John the Baptist Society, Spiritual Director, Vermont Council of Catholic Woman Diocesan Moderator, Spiritual Director-World apostolate of Fatima, Dean of Bennington County, Diocesan Consultor, Presbyteral Council, where he also served as Executive Secretary and Diocesan Education Committee for the clergy. His civic organizations and honors included 251 Club of Vermont- Charter Member, Vermont Civil Air Patrol Chaplain where he also served as Squadron Chaplain, Deputy Wing Chaplain and Wing Chaplain, Vermont State Firefighters Association Chaplain, Southern Vermont Medical Center Pastoral Hospital Advisory Board in Bennington, Chaplain Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Andrew #259 Bennington, Vermont, Chaplain Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Margaret #2406 Arlington, Vermont and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Member of St. Stephen Assembly #1156 Winooski, Vermont. Rev. Dupuis is survived by his nieces, Ann DeCristofaro of Stowe, Massachusetts and Irene Missy Farris of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his sister Ritha Greaves who died April 9, 2003 and his brother Clement Dupuis. FUNERAL NOTICE: A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Saturday September 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Arlington. Interment will take place in the family lot in St. Michael's cemetery in Springfield, Massachusetts.
