Obituary Condolences

NORTH BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for George H. Donovan was held on Wednesday morning, April 6, 2004 at the E.P. Mahar and Son Funeral Home, followed by a mass of Christian death and burial at St. John The Baptist Church in North Bennington, with the Rev. James Howard, pastor, and the Rev. Michael DeMasi, officiating. The pall was placed on the casket by Mr. Donovan’s son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Ann Marie Donovan. A small wooden cross was then placed on the pall by Edward. Selected hymns for the mass included: “Here I Am Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” “Be Not Afraid,” “Ave Maria” and On “Eagle’s Wings.” These were sung by Monica Murray accompanied on the organ by Donald McMahon.

The Old Testament Scripture was read by Mr. Donovan’s son-in-law, Thomas Babcock, the responsorial psalm, the 23rd Psalm, was read by Ann Marie Donovan. The New Testament was read by his granddaughter Tracy Richards. The eucharistic gifts were presented at the altar by his daughters; Betty Waters and Elaine Babcock.

Interment followed in the family lot in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in North Bennington. Pallbearers for the services were Thomas Babcock, Harold Waters, Bob Richards, Mike Waters, Neil Turner, and James Donovan.

Mr. George H. Donovan, 89, a resident of Cossayuna, N.Y. and former longtime resident of North Bennington, died on Monday, April 5, 2004 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, following a brief illness.
