George "Red" Hendee 1924-2012 Mr. George "Red" Hendee, 87, a resident of Water St. North Bennington, Vt., died Tuesday April 10, 2012 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. He was born at the family home in Pittsford, Vt., September 12, 1924. Red was the son of the late George and Florence (Sribner) Hendee. He received his education in Pittsford and was a 1942 graduate of Pittsford High School. A World War II veteran, Red served in the United States Army Air Corp. from 1943 to 1945. He married the former Elizabeth "Anne" Robinson on February 18, 1950 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington. Mrs. Hendee died June 18, 2008. For many years Red was employed at the Polygraphic in North Bennington where he worked as a lithographer. He loved all sports and especially enjoyed playing golf. Red and his wife Anne would often go for a ride to scout for deer. He loved the Green Mountains and was an avid gardener. His greatest joy was sharing the vegetables that he harvested with family and friends. A very kind, loving and giving person, Red extended open arms to many people in time of need. He was also very fond of his cats. Survivors include his daughter, JoAnne Hendee of Bennington; A sister Barbara Hart of Lincoln, Nebraska; A brother Jack Hendee and his wife Pauline of Cape Neddick, Maine; A sister in law Barbara Hendee of St. Augustine, Florida. A brother in law and sister in law, William and Jean Sorenson of North Bennington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two brothers Roger and Wendell Hendee. At Red's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A family memorial will be held this summer at the convenience of the family.
