Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for George J. Cushing was held on Wednesday morning at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington followed by a Mass of resurrection at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington with the Rev. Vincent Copolla, csc, associate pastor, officiating. The pall was placed over his urn by Mrs. Margaret LaCroix, and Mrs. Lisa Mylroie. Selected hymns for the Mass included “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Here I Am Lord” and “Amazing Grace.” Organist for the Mass was Donald McMahon and the soloist was Monica Murray. Mr. Frank Nolin, a close family friend, read the Old Testament scripture and Mrs. Peggy Caron read the New Testament scripture.

Assisting at the Mass were Mr. Leonard Anzivino, Mr. Valmore Clifford, Mr. James Kempf and Mr. Charles Gould.

The Eucharistic gifts were presented at the altar by Mrs. Gloria LaCroix, and Mrs. Shirley Nolin. The eulogy was offered by Mr. Joseph LaCroix and a poem was read by Gloria LaCroix. Interment followed in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington with the Rev. Copolla offering the prayer of committal.

Family and friends gathered for a mercy meal at the parish hall following the interment service. Mr. George J. Cushing, 84, a longtime resident of Burgess Road in Bennington, died on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington following a long illness.
