George "Singie" Merrow 1929 - 2008 LONDONDERRY George "Singie" Merrow, 78, of Londonderry passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on July 16, 2008, after a battle with cancer. Born on Sept. 28, 1929, to Harry and Viola Merrow of Danby. He served his country with pride in the Korean War and was an active member of the VFW and Chester American Legion. Singie was an avid fisherman, hunter, and Red Sox fan. He was an active member of the Weston Rod and Gun club and helped build the club facility. He also spent many countless hours watching softball at Green Mountain Softball Field in Chester, of which he was a founding member. Singie could be found downstreet having a high volume discussion with anyone who would listen. He leaves his wife of 58 years, the former Doris Stone, whom he married Feb. 18, 1950. Besides his wife, he leaves eight children, Donna and John Benson of Manchester; Harry Merrow and Chris of Fair Haven; Peggy Merrow, Tina Merrow, and Terry and Arlena Merrow, all of Londonderry; Bonnie and Art Kilburn of Dorset; Robin and Jim Daley of Peru; Garry Merrow and Wendy of Windham; 19 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Kenny Merrow and Henry Merrow, both of Cottondale, Fla., and Thomas Merrow of Londonderry; and his sisters, Betty Chartier of South Londonderry; MaryLou Woodruff of Windham, and Nancy Merrow of Westboro, Mass. He was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, Richard, Eugene and Donald. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no calling hours or funeral. Please join the family in celebrating Singie's life on July 26 at 1 p.m. at Hapgood Pond in Peru. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Vermont Veterans Hospital in White River Junction, VT. Cremation is being handled by Eternal Blessings.
