George Van Gemert

1924-2013 BENNINGTON George Van Gemert, 89, formerly of Eagle Rock in Arlington and a resident of The Meadows in Manchester, passed away Saturday August 3, 2013 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

George was born in Rochester, New York on June 28, 1924 the son of Henry and Helen (Englert) Van Gemert. He received his early education in Rochester.

Later he served in the United States Navy during World War II and in the Naval Reserves until 1952. Mr. Van Gemert's years in medical administration encompassed numerous organizations, locations and assignments. He was active in community and professional organizations, which included being a member of the Board of Governors of Rahway Hospital, Rahway, New Jersey, board member of the Clark State Bank, Clark, New Jersey, board member of the Union County Heart Association, Rotary International, the American College of Hospital Administrators, the New Jersey and American Public Health Associations, the College of Hospital Accountants, the Elizabeth Hospital Council, the Royal Society of Health (London) and other health related groups. In addition to these achievements, he served as Hospital Consultant to several other hospitals during his career.

Mr. Van Gemert is survived by his brother Richard Van Gemert of Florida, his caregivers, Keith and Donna Squires of Arlington and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his brother Henry Van Gemert.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning August 7, 2013 at 10 AM at Christ Our Savior Parish (St. Paul Roman Catholic Church) in Manchester. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in St. Columban's Cemetery in Arlington. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening August 6, 2013 from 6-8 pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home Historic Route 7A Arlington, Vermont. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Mr. Van Gemert's memory may be made to the Arlington and Manchester Rescue Squad's P.O. Box 528 Arlington, Vermont 05250.
