George Walter "Porky" Shortsleeve II

Obituary Condolences

EAST DORSET -- George Walter “Porky” Shortsleeve II, 52, of East Dorset, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury. He was born April 4, 1954, in Rutland, the son of George W. and Catherine (LaBelle) Shortsleeve. The family lived in Rutland until the mid 1960s, when they came to the Dorset area.

He was a 1973 graduate of Burr and Burton Seminary. “Porky” married Gladys Alley on May 9, 1981, in Manchester. He owned and operated Million Mile Muffler shop in Manchester since 1994. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. His main passion was his family and close friends. He loved children, most notably his grandchildren. He made friends wherever he went and had a knack of always finding someone he knew, regardless of where they were around the country. He had an uncanny ability of making those around him open up and feel incredibly comfortable.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys of East Dorset; a son, George S. Shortsleeve of East Dorset; three daughters, Diane Stauff of Manchester, Melissa Henderson of Nantucket, Mass., and Katherine Shortsleeve of Cameron, N.C.; a sister, Denise Beebe of East Dorset; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
