Gerald E. Bowen Sr.

1920-2010 WEST PALM BEACH, FL Gerald Evan Bowen Sr., 89, a resident of Wayman Circle in West Palm Beach, Fla., and formerly of Readsboro, Vt., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at his home.

Born in Readsboro, Vt. on Feb. 13, 1920, son of Alfred Monroe and Hazel Diana Prew Bowen, he attended local schools. Gerald worked as a mechanic in the paper production business for many years.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Force of WWII and a former member of the Readsboro Baptist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 29 in Readsboro where he also served as Legion Chaplain for thirty years. Gerald enjoyed singing and playing guitar and enjoyed square dance calling.

Gerald leaves his son, David Bowen, of Albany, N.Y.; his daughter, Wanda Deme and her husband, Sandor, of West Palm Beach, Fla., his sister, Netha Gray, of Palmer, Mass.; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alyce Grace Berard, who died Mar. 16, 2004, his son, Gerald E. Bowen Jr., who died Apr. 30, 2000, and his brother, Halton Bowen.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside funeral services for Gerald will be held in the family lot in Readsboro Village Cemetery and will be announced in the spring. There are no visiting hours.
