Gerald A. "Jerry" Caparco
1928-2009 BENNINGTON Gerald A. "Jerry" Caparco, 81, a former resident of Bennington, Vt. and for the last 14 years a resident of Punta Gorda, Fla. died Tuesday December 22, 2009 at the Harbour Health Center in Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. on July 5, 1928. He was the son of the late Antimo and Amelia Mary Iannazzi Caparco. Jerry received his education in Brooklyn schools.
He married the former Marianne Pult in Burlington, Vt. on July 5, 1975.
A veteran of the Korean War, Jerry served as a staff sergeant in the motor pool. He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Bennington, Vt. In earlier years, Jerry, a mechanic by trade, owned and operated an auto repair business. He then went into the car wash business while in Connecticut and eventually bought a car wash in Vermont, where he moved the entire family in 1969. He retired from the business at the age of 55 and started a new water heater repair business. After he sold that business, he and his wife traveled between Vermont, Germany and Punta Gorda, Fla. where they finally settled in 1995. In his retirement, he enjoyed his many friends and family in his small retirement community in Florida and played lots of golf, which he loved. He was an avid golfer and jack-of-all trades. He was happiest when fixing something for a neighbor or organizing the clutter for his busy children.
Survivors include his wife , Marianne Caparco, of Punta Gorda, Fla., his children, Mary Frost, of North Bennington, Vt., Antimo Caparco, and his wife, Joyce, of Forestville, N.Y. and Cathy Idema, and her husband Wayne of Pownal, Vt., his grandchildren, Amanda Mattison and her husband, Tim of North Bennington, Vt., Clenn M. Frost and his wife, Bethany of Clarksville, Tenn., Nicholas Caparco of Wappinger Falls, N.Y., Jeffery Caparco, of Conewango Valley, N.Y. and Jamie Parslow, of Chicopee, Mass., three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Will and Hunter Mattison; three sisters, one brother, nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a brother, Angelo, his sister, Carmela, his former wife, Nannette, and his son-in-law, Clenn A. Frost.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held on Saturday Jan. 2, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington, VT with Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church officiating.
