BENNINGTON -- Gerald E. Thompson, 44, a resident of McCall Street, died Friday morning, Sept. 29, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington on Feb. 11, 1962, the son of the late Allen and Mildred (Carpenter) Thompson. Gerald received his education in local schools and was a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. Gerald was employed as a road supervisor with the state Agency of Transportation in the Bennington office. He started with AOT in 1981.

He married the former Mary Jane “MJ” Senecal on Nov. 28, 1992, in Bennington. Mary Jane survives.

He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He greatest joy was spending time with his family. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Mark Thompson, Anthony Thompson and Gregory Thompson, and two daughters, Abby Thompson and Molly Thompson, all of Bennington.

Gerald has three brothers, Ernie Thompson and Allen Thompson, both of Bennington, and Roger Hill of Connecticut; three sisters, Judy Bushee of South Carolina, Rose Aiken of Pownal and Alice Munger of Bennington. He leaves a grandson, Carter Scott of Bennington, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Krones Disease Foundation or the American Heart Association, Vermont Chapter, through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
