Gerald E. Thomson Sr 1946-2012 Gerald E. Thomson Sr., 65 died peacefully Saturday May 26, 2012 at the Vermont Veterans Home in the company of his family. Mr. Thomson was born in Bennington on June 3, 1946, he was the son of Kenneth and Lilah (Marsh) Thomson. He was a Vietnam War veteran serving with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Thomson had worked throughout his life as a welder and truck driver, as a welder he had worked in the construction of Universal Studios in Florida. He liked working on cars and had several muscle cars of his own. He was a member of the Pittsfield Piston Poppers and had worked at Lebanon Valley Speedway, he was a Ham Radio operator, using the name "Big Bird" as his handle he talked to people throughout the world. He enjoyed singing and playing the keyboard, bass and acoustic guitar and the organ. He leaves his sons Gerald Thomson Jr. of Manchester Center and Ryan Thomson of Boca Raton, Fla., a daughter Darcy Thomson of Adams, Mass. and five grandchildren FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services will be held on Friday June 1 at 11 a.m. at the Four Chaplains All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home with Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the War Memorial Cemetery on the grounds of the Veterans Home.
