Gerald J. Van Der Kar 1943-2012 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. Gerald J. Van Der Kar 68, passed away on Wednesday April 18 at his residence surrounded by his family. He resided on High Street with his wife Judy (Stowell) Van Der Kar. Gerald was born on December 11, 1943 in Hoosick Falls son of the late Arthur and Ruth (Peters) Van Der Kar. He was educated at schools in Hoosick Falls. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Bay of Pigs. He was employed by the Boston & Maine Railroad, Hoosick Falls Highway Department and the Hoosick Falls Police from which he retired. Gerald was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, archery and fishing with his grandsons. He was a member of the NRA, NYS Hounds men Association and the Owlkill Gun Club. Survivors other than his wife Judy include his daughter Denise McMahon husband John, of Petersburgh, N.Y., grandsons Tyler "TJ" and Travis McMahon, great granddaughter Avery, sisters Annette Powers (Richard) of Hoosick Falls, Sandra Van Der Kar companion Scott Smith of Petersburgh, N.Y., brother John Van Der Kar (Nancy) of Hoosick Falls, step-sister Marjorie Hulihan of Boston, Mass., also several nieces and nephews. Gerald was predeceased by a brother Kenneth Van Der Kar, sisters Shirley Van Der Kar and Patricia (Lynn) Stellar and step-brother Arthur Van Der Kar. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Saturday April 21 at 10 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY. Burial with military honors will follow the service at Island Hill Cemetery in Buskirk, NY. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
