MANCHESTER -- Gerald William Campney, 63, a lifelong resident of Manchester, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

He was born in Bennington on Oct. 9, 1942, the son of Frank and Wilma (Hoyt) Campney. Gerald received his education in Manchester schools, graduating from Burr and Burton Seminary, class of 1960. After his discharge from the Navy, Gerald worked as a stonemason for many years in the Manchester area.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Manchester and loved hunting and fishing. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing softball and cherished spending time with his family.

Gerald is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Bourn, whom he married in Manchester on Oct. 18, 1963; his stepmother Lucille Campney, of Manchester; his son Douglas Campney and his wife, Lolitay, of Idaho; three daughters, Bertha Johnson and her husband, Mark, of Arlington, Cindy Campney, of White Creek, N.Y., and Billie Jo Campney, of Bennington; two brothers, Burton Campney, of Manchester, and Frank “Bud” Campney, of Missouri; three sisters, Ann Hoyt, of Arlington, Lucille Kapusta, of Manchester, and Mary Tabor, of New York; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Doris Wilma Campney, and his sister, Catherine Campney.

Funeral services for Gerald will be held Thursday afternoon Oct. 5, 2006, at 3 p.m. at the Brewster Funeral Service 34 Park Place Manchester Center, Vt. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
