Geraldine F. Baker
1935-2009 BENNINGTON, VT Geraldine Feyrer Baker, 74, died at her home Dec. 29, 2009, in Tequesta, Fla., after a ten year battle with lung cancer. She was born in Washington, D.C., on April 17, 1935, to Henry Martin Feyrer and Agnes Walread Feyrer. Her early years were spent in New Canaan, Conn. and Chatham, N.J. She graduated from Chatham High School in 1953.
She and her future husband arrived on the campus of The University of Vermont in early September of 1953, not knowing each other. The very next day they were introduced by a mutual friend in the medical school. He was smitten by her immediately. They were married in Summit, N.J. on Aug. 13, 1955. On June 16, 1957, in the same ceremony, they both graduated from the University of Vermont, she from the undergraduate school and he from the medical school. The next seven years Gerry spent with her husband in his medical training, the next two years in Buffalo, N.Y., three years in Boston, Mass. and two years in California where her husband fulfilled his military obligation at the U.S. Naval Hospital in San Diego.
The couple returned to Vermont in 1964 where they lived in Bennington for 44 years. Her husband practiced medicine and Gerry raised five children.
Second only to her husband and children, Gerry loved the game of golf. She was a natural and liked to teach the fundamentals of the game to beginning golfers. She excelled in competition. During a period of 20 years, as a member of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass., she won the women's club championship 16 times. Gerry also was a proud longtime member of the Women's Golf Association of Massachusetts (WGAM). She annually participated in many competitive events.
She also served in Bennington on The Board of the Mount Anthony Union High School for six years, the last two as Chair.
She leaves her husband, Dudley Moore Baker, an orthopedic surgeon; and five children, Christopher Moore Baker, Sr. and his wife, Josephine, of Ipswich, Mass., David Martin Baker of Alexandria, Va., Catherine Ann Baker of Seattle, Wash. and her husband, Rich Feldman, Michael Dudley Baker of Waipahu, Hawaii, and Stephanie Elizabeth Baker of Village of Hampstead, London, UK; five grandchildren, Christopher Moore Baker, Jr. of Charlestown, Mass., William Keane Baker of Chestnut Hill, Mass., Anna Feldman of Seattle, Wash., Zaki Said and Anisa Said of Hampstead, London, UK.
