BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Gerard “Gerry” Alexander were held on Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 2006, at the Missionary and Christian Alliance Church in Bennington with Pastor Edward Blue, officiating.

Musicians for the services included pianist Donald McMahon, Gerry’s niece, Michelle, as violinist and the soloist was Katie Beck. Selected music for the funeral included “Ave Maria,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Remembrances and tributes were offered by his sister, Jane Alexander, his cousin, Robert McBriatz, and his close friend, Bruce Warner.

The committal followed in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington where bagpiper Kathy Buck offered several musical selections, including “Amazing Grace.” In honor of his military service, Joseph Krawczyk of American Legion Post 13 of Bennington presented the flag to Gerry’s mother, Maria Alexander, and taps were offered by bugler Susan Green.

During the visitation, earlier in the morning at the church, a large group of his former co-workers from the Bennington Post Office came by to offer their respects.

Gerard “Gerry” Alexander, 56, a former longtime resident of Bennington and most recently of DeLand, Fla., died on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at his residence.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
