Gerard Farland Sr. 1948 - 2008 BENNINGTON Gerard A. Farland Sr., 60, a longtime resident of Bradford Street died Saturday evening, Aug. 2, 2008, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Born in Southbridge, Mass., on Feb. 17, 1948, son of the late Rosaire J. and Marguerite M. Saulnier Farland, he received his education in Southbridge and at Southern Vermont College. Gerard served with the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In earlier years, he employed as a draftsman, a truck driver and Tool and Die Maker, but more recently, had been employed as a substitute school teacher and a professional musician. Gerard was a member of the Disables American Veterans, Knights of Columbus Council 307 of Bennington, where he was a Fourth Degree Knight. He was a former member of the National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, Vermont Veterans Association and the New England Country Music Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing music, and had driven for the Red Cross. He married the former Andrea P. Benway on Dec. 28, 1973. in Worcester, Mass., at St. John's Catholic Church. Besides his wife, he leaves his son, Gerard A. Farland Jr. of Bennington; his son and daughter-in-law;, Christian O. and Misty Farland of Bennington; two grandchildren, Leah Jean and Gracie Lyn Farland, both of Bennington; his mother-in-law, Margaret Benway of Bennington, and several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Prayer service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., followed by a Mass of Resurrection at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11:30. Interment will follow in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the services.
