Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- A mass of the resurrection for Gerard McManus was celebrated on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. George Dupuis was the celebrant. Music was under the direction of organist Louise Gauthier and musician Patti Cody, who led the congregation in singing of the hymns “Be Not Afraid,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art.”

Patti Cody sang the Hank Williams song “I Saw the Light” to close the Mass.

The pall was placed on the casket by Gerard’s wife and two daughters, Sally McManus, and Nancy McManus, and Susan Sullivan.

Scripture readings were offered by Gerard’s son, Richard McManus.

The responsorial psalm was read by Gerard’s son, Stephen McManus.

The offertory gifts were presented to the altar by William McManus, Roy Sullivan, and Christopher Gavigan, and the eulogy was offered by Gerard’s son, Roger.

Interment followed in the family lot in St. Columban’s Cemetery, where the Rev. Dupuis offered burial rites and committal prayers.

Serving as pallbearers were Gerard’s sons, Thomas, Roger, Richard and Stephen McManus.

A time of fellowship and refreshments was shared following the service in the parish center.

Friday evening, the Rev. Dupuis offered a catholic prayer and vigil service at the funeral home. Among the delegations present were representatives from United Counseling Service, the Catholic Daughters and members of St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church.

Gerard McManus, a resident of Sandgate Road, died Monday, March 21, 2006, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, Arlington Chapel, Route 7A.
