Gertrud L. Kautz 1920 - 2008 Pittstown- Gertrud "Gerda" L. Schwartze Kautz, 88, a longtime resident of Pittstown, died peacefully, Monday, Oct. 13, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in Nurnberg, Germany, Jan. 24, 1920, Gerda was the daughter of Arno and Henrietta Kaufmann Schwartze and the wife for over 49 years of the late Boyd J. Kautz, who predeceased her in 1990. Mr. and Mrs. Kautz were married in Petersburgh on December 15, 1940. Mrs. Kautz was a graduate of Troy High School, the Class of 1939. She was a wonderful homemaker for many years and enjoyed raising her family and cooking and baking for her grand and great-grandchildren. For over 60 years she was a member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, was the Chairperson for many dinners and bake sales, a past president of the United Methodist Women's Group and the first woman elected to serve as a Church Trustee. Mrs. Kautz enjoyed traveling to Europe several times to visit family and explore the "Old Country". Among her favorite hobbies was her love of solving crossword puzzles, reading, sewing clothing for her family, gardening and cooking and baking. She leaves her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda J., and Nicholas Masters, of Plattsburgh, Judith A. Kuscsik of Buskirk, Jean E., and Benjamin Jewett, and Vivian L., and Gerald Harris, all of Pittstown, a son and daughter-in-law, James B. and Therese Kautz, of Pittstown, 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, a son-in-law, the late Edward Kuscsik Sr, predeceased Mrs. Kautz. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Pittstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Art Hagy officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the HOWARD B. TATE & SON FUNERAL HOME INC., 2237, NY Route 7, located in Raymertown. In honor of Mrs. Kautz, memorial contributions if desired may be made to either the Pittstown United Methodist Church, 57 Old Route 7, Valley Falls, NY 12185 or to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
