Gertrude L. Bishop

1922 - 2014 BENNINGTON Gertrude L. Bishop, 91, widow of Amos Bishop Jr., and long time resident of Bennington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Vermont Veterans Home. Mrs. Bishop was born in North Bennington on Aug. 15, 1922, daughter of the late George W. and Eva Dragon Senecal, and received her education in the Bennington schools. Mr. and Mrs. Bishop were married in Bennington on Aug. 11, 1948. Mr. Bishop passed away in December, 1984. In earlier years, Mrs. Bishop was employed at the E.Z. Mill, Simson Corporation, and the former Union Carbide, all in Bennington. Survivors include three daughters and their spouses, Debra and Michael Davenport of Pownal, Sylvia and James Jordan of Florida, and Loraine Strohmaier of Bennington; three sons, Bruce Bishop of Bennington, Edward and Virginia Legacy of Shaftsbury, and James and Patricia Legacy of Pennsylvania; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bishop was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen Bishop; a son, George Legacy; a grandson, Henry Strohmaier Jr., and two sisters, Clara Parker and Bessy Sausville. She was also predeceased by her step-mother, Loraine Senecal, who raised her from early childhood. FUNERAL NOTICE: At Mrs. Bishop's, request there will no services held. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in Gertrude L. Bishop's memory may be made to the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
