Gertrude Elizabeth Estes

1936 - 2015 BENNINGTON Gertrude Elizabeth Estes, age 78, a resident of Rogers Avenue in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. died on Saturday evening, Jan. 10, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington surrounded by her loving family. Gertrude was born in Bennington on Nov. 10, 1936 and was the daughter of the late William and Eleanor (Mathers) Coyne. She received her education in Bennington schools. She married Donald J. Estes in Bennington on Jan. 9, 1954, and had just celebrated their 61st anniversary on Friday. In earlier years Gertrude had worked at Yankee Notions and The Yard Stick, both sewing shops in Bennington. She was an extremely talented seamstress, and painter and an avid aviary. She could identify most every bird that she saw or heard. But her passion for over forty years, with her husband, was breeding, training and showing German Shepherds. Many of the dogs she trained have been adopted by numerous police agencies throughout New England over the years. She was involved in the Bennington County Kennel Club, as well as other dog associations. Survivors besides her husband include her children, Deborah (Peter) Knapp of Milford, N.H., Mark (Lori) Estes of Sarasota, Fla., Jeffrey (Maria Paz) Estes of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Kevin (Nancy) Estes of Bennington; and a very special niece and Goddaughter Patti-Jean Dickie.She leaves her grandchildren, Peter, Lisa, Joshua, Tanya, Kate, Jessica, Jacob, Sarah, Sophie and Olivia; as well as great-grandchildren, Chris, Savannah, Caytlyn, Kohl, Ashley, Shelby, Kris, Dylan, Tre', Paige, Collin, Hunter, Brayden, Maya, Brooke, Cameron, and Desmond; and one great-great-granddaughter Lyla Violet. Gertrude is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Helena Powell, Kathryn Brown, Edward, Ralph, Stephen, Gregory and Thomas Coyne She is predeceased by two brothers, Milton Coyne and John (Jack) Coyne; and one sister, Mary Pat Livingston. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington at 1 p.m. There are no calling hours scheduled. Interment will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
