Gertrude V. Kinney 1923-2012 BENNINGTON Mrs. Gertrude V. "Trudy" Kinney, 89, widow of James M. Kinney, a resident of Grove St. in Bennington, Vt., died Wednesday June 20, 2012 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. She was born in Essex Junction, Vt., February 5, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Nelson H. and Adelaide M. (Parizo) Valyou. Trudy received her education in Essex Junction and was a graduate of Essex Junction High School class of 1940. She attended the University of Vermont and was a graduate of the Fanny Allen School of Nursing in 1944. Mr. and Mrs. Kinney were married at Holy Family Church in Essex Junction, Vt., on August 23, 1947. Mr. Kinney predeceased her on October 7, 1999. Mrs. Kinney was employed as head nurse in the new born and premature nursery at Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington from 1945 to 1983. She was a member of the Bennington County Nurses Association, AARP and the former Bennington Club. She served on the local cancer board from 1986 to 1989 and was a volunteer at the American Red Cross Blood Bank. Mrs. Kinney was an active member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Andrew 259. Survivors include two sisters, Mary (Harold) Bergeron of Essex Junction, Vt., and Thelma (Peter) Cavaiola of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; a niece, Ann (Lawrence) Yandow and family of Essex Junction, Vt., and several nieces, nephews, great nieces great nephews and cousins. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church on Saturday June 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The burial will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday June 22, from 5 to 7 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of Mrs. Kinney may be made to either the Vermont Chapter of the or the Vermont Heart Fund through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
