Obituary Condolences

POWNAL -- Gertrude Lingner, 91, of North Pownal, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at the North Adams Regional Hospital in North Adams, Mass. She was born on April 11, 1916, in New York City, the daughter of Rudolph and Anna Faecks (Ohme) Winter. She married Martin Lingner Sr. on Sept. 11, 1937, in St. James Lutheran Church in New York City. In 1945 they moved to Vermont and settled in North Pownal where they raised their family.

She worked for many years for General Cable Co. (previously Cornish Wire) in Williamstown, Mass., and for short periods at Warren Wire and Pownal Tanning Co. She was a union steward when she was with Cornish Wire and General Cable. She had also assisted her husband at the time he ran the Y.T. Restaurant. She was an officer of the North Pownal Graded School and was treasurer for the North Pownal Cemetery. She enjoyed painting and was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Martin G. and Ruth Lingner of North Pownal, Robert and Carol Lingner of Mankomen Lake, Alaska, and A. Bruce and Janet Lingner of North Pownal; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the North Pownal Congregational Church. Pastor Gary Rogers will officiate.
