Obituary Condolences

DORSET -- Gertrude V. Nichols, 85, a resident of Route 30 for 41 years, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at her home.

Gertrude was born in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, on Jan. 7, 1921, the daughter of Calvin and Florence (Dowe) Crossett. She grew up there, graduating from Old Orchard Beach High School. Gertrude worked as a waitress for the former Worthy Inn in Manchester for many years and then went to work for Orvis in Manchester for 26 years before retiring.

Gertrude enjoyed doing ceramics and loved her cats. She cherished times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Jack Bowen of Sunderland and Dan Ouellette of Bennington; five daughters, Sandra Zografos of West Brook, Maine, Susan Houle of Lewiston, Maine, and Betty Ann Sheldon, Joan Hazelton and Jean Stannard, all of Dorset; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Worth Bowen, who died in 1965, and her second husband, Richard Nichols, who died in 1998; her brother, Calvin Crossett; and two sisters, Betty Whalen and Nancy Singley.

Funeral services for Gertrude will be held Saturday afternoon, Jan. 28, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Brewster Funeral Service, 34 Park Place, Manchester Center. Interment will be in the spring in the family lot in Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, from 6 to 8 p.m.Memorial gifts may be made to the Dorset Sportman’s Club, c/o Brewster Funeral Service, P.O.
