Obituary Condolences

WESTON -- Gilbert “Gil” Spaulding, 76, died at Rutland Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004.

He was born June 16, 1927 in Weston, son of Ryland and Edna (Sykes) Spaulding.

Gil attended grammar school in Weston graduating from Chester High School and Rutland Business College.

He was employed 11 years for the Rutland Railroad. He left Vermont for a year to work in Arizona for the Consolidated Copper Co. Returning to Vermont, he was employed at the Experiment in International Living in Putney. He was the business manager for two summers at the Weston Playhouse. In 1978 Gil was elected town clerk/treasurer for the town of Weston and continued as an assistant after his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, painting and choral singing.

He was a member of the Old Parish Church in Weston; the Masonic Lodge in Proctor, and past president of Wantastiquet Rotary Club.

Survivors include two sisters, Ardis Smith of Weston and Irene Romano of Arlington; a brother, Ryland Spaulding Jr. of Manchester Center; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ellis Spaulding and a sister, Hilda Crawford.

A memorial service will be held at the Old Parish Church in Weston on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. followed by a reception at the Weston Playhouse. There will be no calling hours.
