Giovanni (John) Italo Dell'Anno

1927 - 2014 BENNINGTON Giovanni (John) Italo Dell'Anno, 87, a resident of Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center, died on Saturday evening, July 26, 2014 following a long illness. John was born in Naples, Italy on Jan. 28, 1927, and was the son of Paolino (Paul) and Concetta (Vecchione) Dell'Anno. He received his education in Italy and served in the Italian Navy during World War II. Following the war, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Vermont. He attended trade schools and learned carpentry. A self-taught architect. John had been employed at Juster Associates in Yonkers, N.Y., and, during his time with them, he was the architect on several area projects, including the former Mammoth Plaza in Bennington, currently Sthe location of the Home Depot, the Bennington Square Plaza and the Home Depot Store in Rutland. He had also overseen remodeling of several buildings in Washington, D.C. John enjoyed horses and horse racing He enjoyed rehabbing old bicycles and horse drawn carriages and sleighs, He was also a wood finisher, and avid gardener. John had been a road bike racer in Italy. John is survived by his children and step-children, his daughter, Pauline Violette and her husband, Donald, Jr. of North Bennington, Dina Kreilich and her husband, Reggie of Naples, Fla., John Dell'Anno and his wife, Judi of Shaftsbury, his daughter, Tina, daughter, Phyllis and son, John, from his marriage to Vita Marie Dell'Anno. John has three step-children, Crystal Moffitt and her husband, Terry of Peru, Vt., Sherrie Jones of Naples, Fla., and Patrick Jones and his wife, Sharyn of North Bennington. He leaves his grandchildren, Jamie and his wife Melissa, Ciara, Cody, Ariana, McKenzie, Lilah, Devon, and Aliyah, and great-grandchildren, Chase "Duke," Abigail and Ella. John is survived by three sisters, Mary Napolitano and her husband Carmen, Antionette Massaro and her husband Tony, Nina Cristello, and his brother Anthony and his wife, Catherine. He is also survived by his former wives, Beverly of Naples, Fla., Vita Marie of Waterbury, Conn., and Enza of Bowie, Md., and several other grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by two brothers, Archie and Nicola Dell'Anno. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Prayer service will be offered at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Wednesday at 12:15 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Death and Burial at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
