Glenn Swalm Obituary
Glenn Robert Swalm

1949-2013 EAGLE BRIDGE, NY -- Glenn Robert Swalm, 64, died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Albany (NY) Medical Center after a long illness. He was the husband of Eve Kennedy. Born August 12, 1949 in Plainfield, NJ, he was the son of Robert and Thelma (Westberg) Swalm. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Central Missouri State University. After an initial career in the steel industry, he was Environmental Health and Safety Manager for General Electric in the Schenectady and Fort Edward plants. Incredibly diverse, Glenn had a multitude of talents and interests. Upon retirement, he became a docent/guide at The Bennington Museum and delighted in teaching children about local Vermont history. He also worked part-time at the Saratoga National Battlefield as a Volunteer Park Ranger. He was a member of the Town of Hoosick Lions Club, having served as Secretary and participating in food delivery services. In addition, Glenn also mentored at-risk children. He had a vast range of knowledge in a staggering amount of topics and fields. Glenn was meticulous in all things -- be it his scientific research, a summer sailing trip, a hilarious gag, or even the small private idiosyncrasies of his life. An avid catamaran sailor, Glenn introduced the love of it to his children in their early lives. He was a devoted fly fisherman and built individual rods for family and friends. Glenn was a lover of model trains and was especially fond of the culinary arts, with his own vast and constantly growing collection of recipes that he would happily prepare for others or pass on to anyone interested. Along with his wife Eve, he is survived by his children, Adriane Swalm Durey (Lincoln) of Atlanta, GA and Guy Swalm of New Orleans, LA; as well as two step-daughters, Vanessa Rosenberg (James Thompson) of Bennington VT and Maria Perillo (Jason) of Saratoga, NY. He also leaves behind his sister Maryellen Lemons (Phil) of Waynesboro, VA; as well as five grandsons. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Memorial Celebration of Glenn's life is being planned at a future date. Donations in Glenn's memory can be made to the Bennington Museum Education fund c/o Deana Mallory, 75 Main Street, Bennington VT 05201. Arrangements are under the direction of Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge, NY. Please visit www.ackleyrossfuneralhome.com to share a memory of Glenn or send a condolence.
