Glenn G. Thurber

1932 - 2013 BENNINGTON Glenn G. Thurber, 81, a resident of Point Lookout, N.Y., died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Maple Pointe Assisted Living Center in Rockville Centre, N.Y., following a long illness.

Born in Bennington on Feb. 20, 1932, he was the son of Ralph and Abby Irene (Burgess) Thurber. Glenn was a graduate of Bennington High School, Siena College and received his Master's Degree from Ithaca College.

Glenn began his teaching career at Black River High School in Ludlow, where he also coached the basketball team. After ten years in Ludlow, Glenn moved to Long Island where he was employed by the Bellmore-Merrick School District for many years until the time of his retirement.

Glenn married the former Barbara Matjasinski in Hempstead, N.Y., on Aug. 25, 1967.

For many years, Glenn and Barbara spent their summers at their home in Woodford.

An avid outdoorsman, Glenn enjoyed basketball, golf, hunting, fishing and stock car racing. He especially enjoyed time spent with his granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Thurber of Point Lookout, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Gee and Christine Thurber of East Meadow, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Emma Faith Thurber, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Glenn was predeceased by a sister, Vivian Sanderson, and by two brothers, Ralph Jr. and Richard Thurber.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be held Monday Aug. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Woodford Cemetery in Woodford.

Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance
