Obituary Condolences

SHAFTSBURY -- Glenna Marie Harvey, 76, wife of Frederick Harvey and a resident of Eagle Street, died Monday, June 26, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long battle with acute liver disease.

Born in Bennington June 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Isabelle (Golden) Sherwin. She received her education in the Arlington, Derby, Conn., and Bennington schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey were married Feb. 25, 1956, at the Federated Church of East Arlington.

Although Mrs. Harvey had no affiliation with the military, she did accompany her husband during his military service to Fontainebleau, France, where they lived for 18 months.

As a young woman, she was employed at the Arlington Inn in the 1940s. For many years, she was an employee of the Union Carbide in Bennington and was also a food service manager at Mount Anthony Union High School in the 1970s and 1980s.

After retirement, Glenna remained a devoted wife and housekeeper. She enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and had a great love of cats and dogs. She also enjoyed motorcycle touring and camping.

Survivors, besides her husband, Frederick Harvey of Shaftsbury, include three children, Darrel Longtin of Phoenix, Ariz., Jeffrey Longtin of Mesa, Ariz., and Aretino Barbarossa of Arlington; three grandchildren; two brothers, Leo M. Sherwin of Hingham, Mass., and Larry Sherwin of Montpelier; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At Mrs. Harvey’s request, private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial contributions in her name be made to the humane efforts of the Second Chance Animal Center through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
