Obituary Condolences

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Gloria Delurey, 77, died Aug. 25, 2004, at St. Peters Hospital in Albany after a short illness. She was the wife of John Delurey for 55 years and resided on High Street in Hoosick Falls.

Gloria was born on Jan. 10, 1927 in Raymertown, daughter of Charles Rowland and Marie Diehl Rowland. Gloria grew up with a love of the outdoors and enjoyed camping and horseback riding. She also had a passion for square dancing and motorcycles. She graduated from Lansingburg High School and then became a legal secretary, working for a leading law firm in Kingston. Later she became an integral part of Delurey Sales & Service, and helped John build the business from the ground up. She delivered trucks, ran the office and is credited by all as being one of the reasons it became a success.

All the while, Gloria also devoted her energies to her children and her community. She served as Cub Scout den leader, past president of the Elks Auxiliary, and later became an active hospital grey lady in Bennington, Vt. With a friend, she initiated and ran the very first Funtastik Fair at St. Mary’s Academy. She was always ready to set an extra plate for dinner if friends, family or neighborhood kids happened to walk through the door.

Gloria also enjoyed traveling, and together with John took many trips over the years throughout the United States and around the world. She still found time for gardening, baking her famous molasses cookies, playing cards with her husband and friends and spending lots of time with all of her grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to her husband include her daughter Kathleen Fishman and her husband Elliott of Glenmont; and her three sons: Dan of Winchester, Mass. and his wife Robin, her son Jeffrey of Hoosick Falls and his wife Teresa, and her son David, also of Hoosick Falls, and his wife Gail. She is also survived by a sister, Eleanor Marpe of Melrose. Gloria was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Matzen of Raymertown.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, John and Keegan Delurey, Jennifer and Christopher Shannon, Ryan, Courtney and Sarah Delurey, Callen, Mallory and Aubrey Fishman, and Zachary, Aaron and Grace Delurey.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 28, at 9:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home at 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
