Gloria Marie Radcliffe 1940-2011 BENNINGTON Gloria Marie Radcliffe, 71, widow of Robert L. Radcliffe Sr., a resident of Prospect Street, Bennington, died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. Born in Springfield, Mass., January 27, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mae Southworth Dasheill. Gloria received her education in the Albany, New York and Bennington schools. Gloria and Bob were married in Albany, N.Y., on March 15, 1958. Bob died October 14, 1991. For many years Gloria was employed by the Bennington Regional Opportunity Council (BROC) in Bennington. Very active in the community, she had served as past president of the Applegate Residents Association and was the founder of the Applegate resident's newsletter. She was instrumental in the establishment of the after school homework program at Applegate. Gloria was also a member and past president of the Neighborhood Watch Program and board member of the Bennington Court Diversion Board. An amazing artist, Gloria also loved music, dancing and spending time with her children, and later her grandchildren, helping them with their homework. Survivors include five children, Barbara Radcliffe of Brattleboro, Deborah Radcliffe of Bennington, Mary Radcliffe of Brattleboro, Robert Radcliffe and his wife Victoria of Bennington and Raymond Radcliffe of Bennington; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Gloria was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria M. Radcliffe Jr. two grandchildren and a brother, Herbert Dasheill. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Tuesday August 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Private committal services will take place at the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Gloria M. Radcliffe's memory may be made to the Vermont Arts Exchange through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
