Obituary Condolences

KEENE, N.H. -- Gordon A. Barrett, 79, a very-well known photographer in the Keene area, who had formerly resided on Route 10 and was of 41 Mountain View Road, West Swanzey, died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2005, at the Genesis Eldercare Center in Keene following a period of failing health.

He was born in Bennington, Vt., Nov. 5, 1925, the son of Arthur and Lois (Young) Barrett, and had resided in Brattleboro and Keene prior to moving to West Swanzey a number of years ago.

Mr. Barrett was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II as a fireman first class.

During his long career as a photographer, he was the owner of the Barrett Studios in Keene and then opened his new studio and surrounding yards with natural vistas at the Route 10 property. His new studio was called Countryside Studio, which he operated until he retired.

He attended the United Church of Christ in Keene and was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows in Keene as well as being a member of the Keene Kiwanis Club. He was a member of numerous photography groups and clubs. He enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Glennis (Underwood) Barrett of West Swanzey; one son, Burton A. Barrett of Cordelia, Calif.; two daughters, Ruth McDonald of Hopkinton, and Susan A. Barrett of Culver City, Calif.; a caregiver, who is a niece, Kim Flanders of Spofford; four grandchildren, Christopher Barrett of Cordelia, Calif., Kari Jasus of Concord, Jill Good of Groomsport, Ireland, and Justin McDonald of West Palm Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Barrett will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, Central Square in Keene. Friends are invited. The Rev. Jay Turbush, interim minister of the church, will officiate. There are no public calling hours.

It has been requested that gifts be made in memory of Mr. Barrett to the Keene Kiwanis Club of Keene, 67 Emerald St., PMB 451, Keene, N.H. 03431. The Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene is in charge of the arrangements.
