Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- Funeral services for Gordon C. Nichols Sr. were held from All Faith Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, where the liturgy of Christian death and burial was offered by the Rev, Michael A. Demasi, chaplain.

Organist was Don McMahon and soloist was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the funeral service were “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Fly Like A Bird,” “Soul of My Saviour,” “Ave Maria” and “On Eagles’ Wings.”

The scriptural readings were offered by Sandra Nicholsy and Gordon Nichols III. The offertory gifts were presented by Kimberly Terry and Naomi Ronek.

Burial took place in the family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel, Conn., on Saturday where the committal prayers were offered by the Rev. John Gilmartin of St. Mary’s Church. Military honors were accorded the World War II Navy veteran by the Military Honor Guard from the Torrington Veterans Service Office in Torrington, Conn. The military honors included presentation of the colors, firing squad, Taps and the folding and presentation of the American flag to Mr. Nichols’ son, Lee Nichols. The Honor Guard bagpiper, Karcher Reynolds played the hymns “Amazing Grace,” “Gerry Owen” and “Minstrel Boy” on the pipes. Following the committal a reception was held at the home of John and Ann Marie Lindblow in South Bridgewater, Conn.

Mr. Nichols, a former resident of Kelly Stand Road, East Arlington, died Oct. 31, 2005 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
