Gracemary K. Jones 1946-2011 POWNAL, VT Gracemary K. Jones, a resident of Maple Grove Road in Pownal, and wife of Willy Jones passed away January 1, 2011 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Gracemary was born in Rutland, Vermont on August 31, 1946 the daughter of Donald E. and Grace B. (Butterfly) Keith. Gracemary received her education in Rutland schools and graduated from Castleton State College in 1968. Upon graduation Gracemary embarked on a teaching career in the Pownal School System retiring after forty two years as an elementary school teacher. Gracemary was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an Honor Society for women educators, and was one of the founders of the Thousand Books Program which placed books in the hands of pre-school children. Gracemary was very active in the Pownal Teachers Group, a member of and officer of the Teachers Union and was awarded Teacher of the Year in Vermont. Gracemary was an avid reader and knitting expert. She enjoyed movies and theatre, especially musicals. Gracemary cherished times spent with her family, particularly her nieces and nephews. Gracemary was a caring, loving teacher highly regarded among her peers. As a lifelong reader herself, Gracemary wished to instill this passion in all the children lucky enough to have her as a teacher. Gracemary is survived by her husband William "Willy" Jones of Pownal, her brother Donald Keith and his wife Janet of Downingtown, Pa., her sister Kathleen Rowe and her husband John of Manchester, N.H. her nieces and nephews, Kelsey and Delaney Keith and Joshua, Benjamin, Zachary and Katie Rowe. A Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning January 8, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment will be held in the spring in Oakhill Cemetery in Pownal. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening January 7, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, Vermont, when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Gracemary's memory may be made to the Old Castle Theatre, WBTN, the Artists in Residence Program at Pownal Elementary School or Reading Is Fundamental (RIF), c/o Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home P.O.
