Gratia (Grace) Pomerleau 1919 - 2011 AUBURN, ME Gratia (Grace) I. Pomerleau, 92, of Montello Manor passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. Grace was born in Lewiston on Jan. 18, 1919, daughter of Romeo and Emella (Maheux) Pomerleau. She was educated at St. Peter's School where she graduated from the "Cours Superior." She worked at Singer Sewing Machine in Lewiston before entering the convent in 1939, where she took the name of "Soeur Therese de L'Enfant Jesus." While in the convent, she furthered her education at Rivier College and U.M. Fort Kent. She taught in Catholic schools in Eagle Lake and Fort Kent and later at St. Louis in Auburn. Grace left the convent in the mid 1960s and moved to Bennington , Vt., where she taught at Mt. Anthony Union Middle School up to her retirement in the mid 1980s. Grace returned to Lewiston after retiring and was a communicant at Holy Cross Parish and an active participant in church activities and volunteered at the parish whenever needed. Grace also devoted a great deal of her time to visiting the sick and elderly in area nursing homes. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Edna Pomerleau of Reading, Mass.; 10 nieces and nephews, including Cecile Thornton, who resides locally; and 16 great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her stepmother, Rejeanne Gagnon Pomerleau; her brother, Armand Pomerleau in 2003; her sisters Yvette Desjardins in 2007 and Midge Pomerleau who passed away in May. She also had two dogs Bijoux and Chou Chou, whom she loved dearly and who were her faithful companions while she lived in Vermont. Grace's family wishes to thank the staff at Montello Commons and Androscoggin Hospice for their loving care and attention. Online condolences and sharing of memories may be expressed at www.lynchbrothers.com. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Funeral Mass honoring Grace's life will be celebrated on Thursday 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Committal services will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Grace's memory to the Hospice House of Androscoggin, 236 Stetson Rd. Auburn, Maine 04210 or to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society 55 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, Maine 04240. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 6-8PM only at the PINETTE & LYNCH FUNERAL HOME 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway Lewiston, 784-4023.
