Gregory Chilek Memory Eternal BENNINGTON, VT Gregory Chilek, 62, of Bennington, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on Sunday, March 26, 2012. Born April 2, 1949, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Greg was the son of the late Alexander and Nedezdah (Nettie) Chilek. He was raised and graduated from high school in Trumbull, CT. In addition to his parents, Greg was predeceased by two beloved brothers, Donald and Kenneth Chilek of Trumbull, whom he missed deeply. He is survived by his older brother, George Chilek of Jefferson, Maine, a sister, Karen Skellie, and brother-in-law, Robert (Ed) Skellie of Cambridge, New York, as well as several nephews and great-nieces. Blessed with an outstanding intellect and infectious sense of humor, Greg was admired by family members and friends alike. He especially enjoyed and will be remembered for countless trips to the Bronx to cheer for the New York Yankees, time spent with friends at the South Street Cafe in Bennington, regular outings with local senior citizen groups, and family visits. Greg worked in several capacities throughout his life including years in the engineering manufacturing business at AVCO-Lycoming in Stratford, CT and as an orderly and nursing assistant within the health care field. In recent years, he made a significant contribution to advocacy work in support of adults with mental illness. Greg was a dedicated Orthodox Christian and parishioner at the Monastic Community of New Skete. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends and family are invited to call at the E.P. MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 28th (628 Main Street; 802.442.2516). Friends are also welcome to join Greg's family for a funeral service at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 29th at New Skete Monastery (343 Ash Grove Road, Cambridge; 518.677.3928).
