Obituary Condolences

HOOSICK, N.Y. -- Gwendolyn W. Baldwin, 76, passed away peacefully at home Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, following a brief illness. Born and raised in Hardwick, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Gwendolyn Crocker Eastman. Raised and educated in Hardwick, she attended Hardwick Academy and was selected for “Girl’s State,” a prestigious student honor. She continued her education and attended nursing school at Putnam Memorial School of Practical Nursing in Bennington and graduated from there, as did her oldest daughter Donna Marie a generation later, and entered into a long career in nursing and helping people.

In addition to her hospital nursing, she practiced private duty nursing in the Bennington area and was greatly respected and requested for her wonderful skill, compassion and care.

Gwendolyn was married to her sweetheart, James W. Baldwin Sr., in 1956 and began her greatest accomplishment in her life, having and raising a wonderful family. In spite of some medical difficulties throughout her life, she always provided a warm, loving home for all who entered. She was an avid decorator and loved to cook and bake apple pies. She especially loved the ocean and collected lighthouses. Gwen was a longtime member of the North Hoosick Fire Department Auxiliary. She will be most remembered as a loving wife, wonderful mother and beautiful grandmother, special friend and neighbor, and caring and compassionate nurse. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors in addition to her beloved husband include her cherished childrenn Donna Marie (Gary) Hunt of Bennington, Vt., Deborah S. (Edward III) Maleady of Hoosick Falls, James W. (Mary Benkoski) Baldwin Jr. of Hoosick Falls, and Dawn (Joseph) Hurst of Wynantskill; the greatest joys of her life, her treasured grandchildren, Emily Marie and Natalie Sage Hunt, Rachel K. and Ryan E. Maleady, Hannah Baldwin, and Molly Gwendolyn and Corey James and Joey Hurst, and her special neighbors and close friends Joan and Bob Morrison. She was predeceased by her siblings, Frederick Eastman and Harry and Peter Ives.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls with interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington, Vt. Friends and relatives are invited and may call on Thursday from 4 to 7 at Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home, 72 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY. Memorial Contributions would be appreciated to the Samaritan Hospital Geropsych Unit, Burdett Avenue, Troy, N.Y. 12180.
