1934 - 2015 SUMMERTON, SC H. Luther Everly, 80, formerly of Cambridge, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2015 at his home in Santee, SC. Born May 28, 1934 in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of the late Luther and Mary Catherine (Collins) Everly. He served his country from 1952 to 1955 as a member of the United States Army Band at West Point, NY. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education in 1959 from Ithaca College he went on to earn his Master of Arts in Music Performance from S.U.N.Y Potsdam in 1967. Luther started his teaching career in the Bayshore, Long Island, school district in 1959. Two years later he accepted a position in Hoosick Falls, NY as the High School Music Band Director until he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Albany Symphony Orchestra as the principal Tubist for about 28 years retiring in 1991. He also played with the Vermont Symphony for many years. An avid hunter and fisherman, Luther frequently traveled to Alaska for the annual salmon run. Mr. Everly is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillian (Marchese) Everly; their two sons, David and wife, Jill (Weber) Everly, of Penfield, NY and William and wife, Lisa (Perry) Everly of Cedar Park, TX. He is also survived by his brother, James Everly and his wife, Clara Jean of Aubrey, TX; his brother-in-law, Joseph Marchese and his wife, Lynne of New Hyde Park, NY; five grandchildren, Griffin, Morgan, Simon, Amelia and Jackson Everly. Luther was predeceased by his sister, Cathelene (Everly) Stevens. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 4 to 7 pm at the Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at St. Patrick's Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge.
