Obituary Condolences

SHUSHAN, N.Y. -- Harley F. Smith, 72, of Shushan, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital. Mr. Smith was born March 9, 1933, in Sandgate, Vt., the son of the late Edison and Helen Nyrhenin Smith. He was a former truck driver and a partner, along with his brother, with S&H Trucking in Shushan until his death. He was a member of the Salem Fish & Game Club and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. Harley will be remembered for his skills operating backhoes and bulldozers.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Cordier Smith, whom he married in 1955, and three children, Daniel Smith of Shushan, Theodore Smith of Hartford and Judith Brownell of Greenwich. He is also survived by his brother, Harold “Abner” Smith of Shushan, and eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter. In addition to his parents, Harley was also predeceased by a sister, Claudia Headwell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the convenience of the family at the Evergreen Cemetery in Salem with the Rev. Raoul Waters officiating. The family extends an invitation to Harley’s family and friends to join them at the Salem Fish & Game Club, Route 29, Salem on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a luncheon and to share memories and reflect on Harley’s life.
