Obituary Condolences

Harold P. Andrew 1909-2010 EAGLE BRIDGE Harold P. Andrew, 100 years old, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 30, 2010. He was the widower of Marion (Austin) Andrew who died in 2003. Born Thursday, December 30, 1909 in Shaftsbury, he was the son of Charles G. and Grace White Andrew. He attended school in White Creek and Hoosick Falls but like so many of his time, left before graduation to work on the family farm in Eagle Bridge. He and Marion were married on October 15, 1935. Together, they ran her family's lumber business, George G. Austin Lumber Yard, for many years. He later worked as a caretaker at the Thompson estate in North Hoosick and then as a machine press operator for Holman's Manufacturing Co. from which he retired. "Uncle Harold's Squash Pickles" was the product of Harold's love of gardening. These pickles were sold from his home, at Moses Vegetable Stand and in Manchester, Vermont. People were known to travel long distances to get "Uncle Harold's Pickles". Harold made his last batch this past August and planned to make more but just got a bit too tired. Harold enjoyed remarkable good health and had a wonderful, sharp mind. On several occasions he spent time at the Hoosick Falls Health Center but only for a short stay. He was still quite capable of living alone and caring for himself. Three brothers, Edwin, George and Francis, and a great-grandson, Matthew Harris, predecease Harold. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Shirley and Michael Palazzo of The Villages, Florida, Sally and Ronald Piritz of Escondido, Calif., and Sharon and Will Moses of Eagle Bridge; a son and his wife, Wayne and Linda Andrew of Petersburg; a sister, Dorothy Baker of Cambridge; 11 grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be a funeral service on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Center White Creek Baptist Church where Harold and Marion were members for many years. Burial will follow at Woodlands Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to your choice of the following: Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 52, Cambridge, NY; Center White Creek Baptist Church, 28 Center White Creek Lane, Eagle Bridge, NY 12057 or Hoosick Falls Health Center, 21 Danforth Street, Hoosick Falls, NY 12057.
